Food Stories

Behind impactful work across communities, there are stories that should be told. Stories of givers, stories of receivers, and stories celebrating the power of partnership.  There isn’t equity across communities when it comes to food, but there are people and organizations fighting for that equity and doing impactful work every day.  It’s important for me to tell those stories because I know with each meal I prepare for my family or friends, there are many people who don’t have food to prepare for themselves or their families. I invite you to read these stories and be inspired to make a difference in your own little way.

A Small Business with Big Taste is “Planted” in Pittsburgh

There are a lot of different reasons people choose to be vegan - health, ethical, mindfulness, and sometimes even curiosity. One small business is inspiring others to find their reason through healthy, delicious plant-based food.
Sometimes food is just food. Sometimes food creates community. And other times, when innovation meets food, it can disrupt a system in a powerful way to create something positive.
Imagine a place where everyone feels welcomed and safe. A place where you’re greeted with smiles and connected with people through food and conversation. You can go there to have a good meal if you’re not food insecure, and if you are food insecure, you can go there for the same delicious meal free of charge.
If you haven’t guessed by now, food is my thing. I love to cook it. I love to eat it. I love to be around it. And if there are people who can’t enjoy food like I can, I want to fix it.
